Data security startup Immuta Inc. recently unveiled a new automated tagging and classification product on supported cloud data platforms.

Immuta’s latest offering, Immuta Discover, empowers data teams to establish and maintain precise metadata, ensuring effective data access control, monitoring, and regulatory compliance. This product automatically and continuously identifies structured data within cloud platforms while leveraging existing metadata extracted from enterprise data catalogs.

Immuta Discover offers a comprehensive view of all sensitive data by harnessing the collected metadata. This is paramount in crafting data policies for data protection and analyzing data usage. According to the company, Immuta Discover, available as part of Immuta’s Data Security Platform, helps organizations improve data security and gain full visibility into their data.

Immuta emphasizes that discovering, tagging, and classifying sensitive data with precise and descriptive metadata are integral elements of a robust and effective data security strategy. Nonetheless, organizations often grapple with managing increasingly distributed data, particularly as data sources and users expand. According to the company, existing solutions must be tailored to effectively tag and classify data across all these diverse sources with the precision and depth necessary for robust security and governance. This gap leads to security vulnerabilities and oversight, making compliance with regulations challenging.

Immuta Discover sets itself apart by enabling data teams to scan, categorize, and label data, facilitating the implementation of data control policies, and monitoring data access. Immuta Discover is different because it lets data teams scan, sort, and tag data to enforce data control policies and monitor who is accessing data.

It comes with more than 60 pre-built and domain-specific classifiers, so businesses can easily change how data is categorized to fit their needs and the confidence level they want to achieve.

Mo Plassnig, Chief Product Officer, said, “Immuta Discover is the foundational component to making any data security program work within your organization and to remain compliant. It’s the first step that must happen in order to protect your data.”

Immuta garnered attention earlier this year in May when it welcomed Databricks Ventures, the investment branch of the prominent big data and machine learning software provider Databricks Inc., as an investor. Additionally, in February, the company secured an investment from ServiceNow Inc.
