Cloudflare Inc, a content delivery network provider, announced the development of the Cloudflare Zero Trust SIM, a product that secures every data packet that leaves mobile devices.
The Zero Trust SIM helps firms connect employee devices to Cloudflare’s global network securely and quickly by directly integrating devices with Cloudflare’s Zero Trust platform to safeguard the network of their employees, no matter where they are located.
With the advent of remote work and Bring Your Own Device (BYOD), the solution aims to address the problem of safeguarding devices used by employees. Organizations often use a secure agent, or application, running on an employee’s device to secure it.
Cloudflare argues that though applications and endpoint agents are crucial components of the security stack, they can’t safeguard all traffic across all devices. It can be difficult to install at volume. Zero Trust SIM bridges the security gap by protecting devices at the SIM level.
By seamlessly integrating with Cloudflare’s full Zero Trust security stack, the Cloudflare Zero Trust SIM enables security policies to be applied to all traffic leaving the device. The Zero Trust SIM enables the deployment of SIMs to Android and iOS devices or locked to a specific device, thus reducing the danger of SIM-swapping attacks posed by present solutions and saving much time for the security teams.
According to Cloudflare, the solution can be deployed at an enterprise scale in a matter of minutes by utilizing modern eSIM technology. Zero Trust SIM can be deployed and enabled with the help of Mobile Device Management systems across devices. This will allow organizations to roll out Cloudflare’s Zero Trust SIM without the hassle of shipping actual SIM cards.
To provide zero-trust security for the “internet of things,” where more items connect to the internet, such as cars, payment terminals, shipping containers, and vending machines, Cloudflare is also creating new solutions based on the Zero Trust SIM.
Matthew Prince, co-founder and chief executive officer of Cloudflare, said, “When I speak to CISOs, I hear, again and again, that effectively securing mobile devices at scale is one of their biggest headaches; it’s the flaw in everyone’s zero-trust deployment. Effectively securing mobile devices is hard, and we have been working on this problem since we launched our WARP mobile app in 2019. Now we plan on going even further.”
Along with the Zero Trust SIM, Cloudflare also announced the launch of Zero Trust for Mobile Operators. This new program would enable carriers to provide their users with full of mobile security features by utilizing Cloudflare’s zero-trust platform. The main security and performance problems with mobile connectivity are what the wireless carrier partner program attempts to address cooperatively.
