Recently, a division of Cloud Software Group Inc., Citrix Systems Inc., has acquired Unicon GmbH, a thin client provider, for an undisclosed amount.
Established in 1993 and headquartered in Karlsruhe, Germany, Unicon GmbH specializes in hybrid client software. Their offerings include the secure endpoint operating system, eLux, and the intuitive endpoint management solution, Scout.
Unicon’s eLux OS is a lightweight, highly secure x86 endpoint operating system designed to help organizations scale and protect their end-user computing environments. It is hardware-agnostic, modular, and resource-efficient.
Unicon’s Scout Enterprise Management Suite is a comprehensive solution designed for rapid deployment, providing detailed control and straightforward management of endpoint devices across various environments, including office, remote, and borderless settings. It enables IT administrators to efficiently oversee extensive fleets of endpoints, integrate diverse x86 device platforms, and monitor large-scale infrastructures.
Unicon’s solutions are crafted to assist organizations in scaling, managing, and securing their endpoints, thereby streamlining IT operations and budgets, and extending the lifespan of endpoint devices. Their streamlined end-user computing solutions empower businesses to easily deploy digital workspaces, advancing their cloud journeys and boosting operational efficiency.
By acquiring Unicon, Citrix aims to offer customers a secure client operating system and comprehensive endpoint management, enhancing security, resilience, and operational costs. This integration enables smooth and effortless access to corporate applications and desktops. Additionally, Citrix enterprise clients can utilize eLux to extend the lifespan of existing assets, especially in light of Windows 10’s end of support.
“The hybrid work model embraced by countless companies today brings tremendous opportunities for employees, as well as challenges for IT teams who must balance security, performance, scalability and cost savings. Our acquisition of Unicon will enable our customers to maximize the value of their endpoints, giving users secure access to the Citrix platform without the need for additional software purchases,” said Sridhar Mullapudi, Co-President of Citrix.
Before its acquisition by Citrix, Unicon was owned by its management team and a family-backed investor, who had acquired all shares from Fujitsu Technology Solutions GmbH on November 1, 2021.
Citrix’s acquisition of Unicon marks its third strategic move in recent months, following the acquisitions of deviceTRUST GmbH and strong.network SA in December 2024.
