Crowdsourced cybersecurity platform startup Bugcrowd Inc. acquired Informer, a company based in the U.K. that provides external attack surface management and penetration testing. The development happened for an undisclosed sum.
Informer is Bugcrowd’s first purchase, having raised USD 102 million in fresh capital in February. Bugcrowd will incorporate Informer’s technologies into its current offering.
Informer, formerly known as The Security Bureau Ltd., was established in 2014 and provides an external ASM platform to assist businesses in identifying, tracking, and safeguarding their digital assets. By offering automated security monitoring to evaluate the risk associated with both known and unknown assets, the platform enables enterprises to counteract security threats proactively.
Among the platform’s primary features are automatic external asset discovery capabilities that precisely locate and map every asset comprising a company’s online presence. The platform monitors assets and notifies users of any changes or problems. The company’s penetration testing services also use automated vulnerability scanning and ethical hackers to provide real-time pentesting results.
By expanding asset identification and monitoring to more use cases, the combination of the two platforms—which Bugcrowd plans to integrate with Informer’s technology—is expected to improve the value that clients receive from Bugcrowd. The pentesting capabilities of Informer and its ASM platform will enhance Bugcrowd’s penetration testing offerings, as well as its Bugcrowd ASM Risk product, which is powered by the hacker community.
Chief Operating Officer at Bugcrowd, Tanya Gay, reported about the deal, “Informer’s ASM SaaS platform and penetration testing capabilities will further enhance Bugcrowd’s AI-powered crowdsourced security platform. Informer’s customers will continue to have access to Informer’s platform and products without service disruption.”
Dave Gerry, Bugcrowd’s Chief Executive, stated that the rapport between the companies is clear. “Together, our combined platforms will enhance the value that customers receive from Bugcrowd by bringing best-of-breed asset discovery and monitoring to multiple use cases,” added Gerry.
After ten years of operation and no venture capital backing, Informer is being bought.
