Security startup Egress Software Technologies Ltd. announced the release of an adaptive security model for its Intelligent Email Security platform, which offers dynamic and automated protection against advanced inbound and outbound threats.

The adaptive security model is intended to evaluate human risk at the individual user’s level and modify enforcement protocols based on the identified risk. By doing this, the company’s platform ensures that an organization’s email security can always respond to the changing risk situation. This gives an organization the ability to change its changing risk profile.

The service from Egress uses a mix of data to develop individual risk scores. An open application programming interface can add a third-party security application’s analytics, open-source intelligence, behavioral data, and threat data. When this risk score exceeds a predetermined threshold, the Intelligent Email Security platform adapts its controls dynamically to defend against phishing, human error, and data exfiltration.

Egress asserts that its adaptive security model provides numerous benefits. The service enhances the security of both inbound and outbound email by managing human risk and automatically adjusting controls based on where the risk is greatest. As individual risk scores increase or decrease, the service provides an instantaneous response, ensuring real-time security enforcement. The service also alleviates the administrative burden by implementing customized security controls based on real-time data analysis.

The company says that the platform gives better access to threat trends and gives useful insights and suggestions. The service also enhances user security awareness with real-time “nudges,” such as dynamic, color-coded banners and configurable prompts tailored to each user’s risk level.

Tony Pepper, Egress’s Chief Executive Officer, said, “Almost every organization freely admits that people represent the biggest risk to their security and are most vulnerable when using email. By implementing an adaptive security architecture, we can continually assess human risk on a per-user basis and automatically dial enforcement up or down depending on the level of the potential threat.”

The adaptive security feature is now globally accessible to all organizations, with existing Egress clients receiving the upgrade at no additional cost.
